Karen
comes from a family of teachers and artists and it's safe to say it is in her
blood. Growing up as a daughter of a Dad who is an art professor and artist taught
her it is possible to support your family by being an artist. Having a Mom who
was a teacher and crafter and always making something (usually to give as a gift)
provided many opportunities to learn and to create from the heart. Having an Aunt
who magically made ice cream cones appear out of knitting needles inspired her
to want to learn how to knit and master all the needlecrafts. And then there were
the family friends, many who were artists too, who constantly encouraged her to
explore her love of textiles and provided many a creative role model for her to
emulate. All these people were teachers in their own way.
In 2007 Karen decided it was time to return the favor to all those people that
taught her and inspired her and she began to teach sewing. It is with great pleasure
that Karen teaches the technique of sewing, but also the love of sewing and the
satisfaction that comes from making something that starts simply as an idea in
your head and emerges as a useful and original article of clothing, accessory
or home furnishing.
She presently teaches Pre-teen sewing at Beehive Co-op in Atlanta, Adult Beginner
and Intermediate Sewing at Felted Heart Studios in the Old 4th Ward in Atlanta
and teaches private lessons at her home studio in Oakwood. See the links on the
News page to find out more about class schedules.
